COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - There's more to the South Carolina State Fair than your usual cotton candy, corn dogs and funnel cakes.
Spaghetti Eddie brings his pizza on a stick. He developed it for the Minnesota State Fair, which brags about being THE food-on-a-stick event.
When you think the Dougnutburger (burger made with doughnuts instead of buns) can't get any more extreme, there's the Redneckburger, which has its origins right here in South Carolina. An electrician employee of the South Carolina State Fair took the idea to a longtime vendor for her to sell, and she did. Take a regular bacon cheeseburger supreme, add a slice of fried bologna, baked beans, and fried potato sticks. If you add some coleslaw, you've made a real southern burger.
WIS found two young women who were eager to try the sloppy monster, and said they loved it.
Then there's your variety of extreme fried foods, from butter to Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.
That's just a sampling of those once-a-year culinary delights available at the South Carolina State Fair.
You can expect your typical barnyard animals at the fair, but there's a special group of piglets who won't win best in show. The Swifty Swine Racing Pigs race for Oreos. One special potbelly pig is willing to swim for one.
