Four people have been arrested after a citizen saw them breaking into a vehicle last week in Northeast Columbia, according to the Richland County Sheriff's Department.
Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said Ronald Pringle, 18, Ronald Sumter Jr., 19, Trayvon Felder, 19, and a 16-year-old juvenile were all charged vehicle/damaging or tampering with a vehicle.
Just before 1:00 a.m. on May 15, at 421 Dahoon Drive an observant citizen called 911 when she saw Pringle, Sumter, Felder, and a juvenile checking for unlocked vehicles, and stealing items from them in the neighborhood, Sheriff Leon Lott said.
When the suspects noticed another citizen watching them, they fled the area, Lott said.
Deputies searching the area located one suspect who was arrested on Founders Ridge, and moments later captured the remaining three on Summit Parkway.
The neighborhood had been experiencing a rash of thefts from vehicles for the past six months, Lott said.
Lott said the investigation continues and additional charges could be forthcoming. Pringle, Sumter, Felder were transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. The juvenile was released to his parents, pending a hearing in family court.
