Barry A. Abels joins CJF, JCC | News
The Columbia Jewish Federation (CJF) and The Katie & Irwin Kahn Jewish Community Center (JCC) located in northeast Columbia, are pleased to announce the appointment of Barry A. Abels, formerly from Tulsa, Oklahoma, as the new joint Executive Director after a nationwide search. In this role, Abels will be responsible for overseeing the joint management of these important organizations in the Jewish Community.
Abels, brings to the Joint Executive Directorship over 38 years experience in management, training and organization leadership as well as over 16 years as a non-profit executive director. A graduate of the University of Texas, Austin, Abels holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Master’s of Education in Organization Development and Leadership. Before recently founding an independent consulting firm, Access Opportunities, Abels served as Executive Director of the Jewish Federation and Charles Schusterman Jewish Community Center in Tulsa Oklahoma. Prior to accepting the job in Tulsa, Abels was Executive Director of the Jewish Community Council of Corpus Christi, Texas, where he was awarded the 2005 Annual Humanitarian Award- National Conference for Community and Justice/Corpus Christi Region. Abels’ expertise in Jewish communal leadership builds on work in other non-profit settings, especially in management of food banks in Corpus Christi and Austin, Texas and at Chicago as Second Harvest, The National Food Bank Network, Education & Training Manager. On the business front Abels’ experiences include sales and management.
