Midlands family camps out for 5 days to take advantage of Black Friday deals | News
A Midlands family is anticipating Black Friday.
Michael Horger and his family have been camping out in front of the Best Buy in Spring Valley since Sunday.
“These guys got here on Sunday night, set-up their tent with a generator over there,” said Best Buy's General Manager, Tom Lauro. “They have their children and wife stopping by throughout the day and they're waiting for all our sales that start on Black Friday, Thursday at midnight.”
According to Michael, he’s not just waiting on the sales.
“A couple of years ago, the first person to camp out got an iPad,” said Michael. “And we figured maybe we’ll get something for free if we’re the first people to camp out.”
So far, the manager of the store has given Michael and his family $100 in Best Buy gift cards.
“They're allowed to use the store facility, we’re giving them discounts on any pops or beverages they buy,” added Lauro. “This is just to reward them for their service, especially for waiting five days outside, I know we’re in South Carolina, but it’s still a commitment”
Michael is not alone in his pursuit to great deals.
“My wife and I own the Party Cab in Columbia, I work she stays in the tent, she works I stay in the tent,” said Michael.
Michael says he chose the location because it was close enough to a gas station to use the restroom, and surrounded by plenty of places to eat.
“This is closer to the house, so if we do want to switch off we can go home take a shower, and come back,” said Michael.
But who needs a shower when you have a tricked out tent fully equipped with a queen-sized air mattress, generator, heat, fan, food, drinks, a couple of iPads, android tablets and phone charges.
And according to Michael, the family will be spending Thanksgiving in the tent eating fast food.
“If we leave we could lose our place in line,” said Michael.
